Spacious swimming pool

After an eventful day, you deserve to relax! We are one of the few hotels in the area with a large swimming pool surrounded by palm trees and tropical greenery. You can see birds, iguanas, macaws and, with luck, capuchin monkeys and toucans.

Throughout the day you will be accompanied by a tropical symphony – from hummingbirds to toucans to screaming macaws directly overhead.

How to get to the Corcovado Drake Inn

 

There are three ways to reach Bahía Drake: by small plane on a domestic SANSA flight from San José to the Drake airstrip (approx. 45–50 minutes), by boat from the Sierpe dock navigating along the Sierpe River and its mangroves out to the ocean (approx. 1 hour), or by 4×4 vehicle via the Rincón route (recommended mainly during the dry season; includes river crossings). We are happy to help you coordinate the best option for your itinerary.

Is it better to arrive by car, boat, or small plane?

There is no single “best” option—it depends on your travel style. The small plane is the fastest route and offers spectacular views of the Osa Peninsula. The boat ride along the Sierpe River is a scenic experience in itself, surrounded by mangroves and wildlife. The 4×4 vehicle gives you maximum independence to explore the area on your own. Below is a summary of the advantages of each option.

By Air

You can reach Drake Bay by taking a local flight from Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José to the Drake airstrip, located just a few minutes from the hotel. The flight takes only about 45 minutes.

At Corcovado Drake Inn, we offer transportation to and from the local airport, and the cost depends on the number of passengers. Contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you with the reservation.

Local flights depart from the domestic terminal at Juan Santamaría Airport. The recommended airline is Sansa.

Please note that these flights are operated on small aircraft with a max  capacity of 12 passengers, and there are strict limitations on the amount of luggage you can bring.

By Land

The drive to Drake bay from the city of San José takes about 7 hours via Route 34, known as La Costanera, until reaching the town of Piedras Blancas, where you take Route 245 toward the Osa Peninsula.

Keep in mind that the last 20 kilometers are not paved, so a high-clearance 4×4 vehicle is recommended.

It’s advisable to call the hotel before departing to check the most recent road conditions. The road may close during periods of heavy rain.

By Water

Boats depart from the town of Sierpe, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour. The cost is about US$20 per person. You can drive along Route 34, La Costanera, to Sierpe and then take the water taxi service from there.
